Our Second Day

Our second day started with a tour of the Vatican highlights. Here is where we entered the "the smallest country" of Europe - the Vatican.

Our tour guide said it would take about 3 days to see all of the Vatican - so we are just touring Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Catheral and Square - here is the building that houses much of the Vatican's art collection that we did not see.

No photos are allowed in the Sistine Chapel, but you can take photos of the artwork in the long corridor leading to the Chapel.

St. Peter's Square where the Pope makes a public address every Wednesday to crowds of 90,000.

The Swiss Royal Guard

A delicious lunch before we head out for more Roman sights.

There are 14 obelisks in Rome that the ancient Romans brought back from their conquered territories as signs of their victories. Crosses were later added to the tops to make them palatable to the Vatican.

Twin churches in the "People's Piazza."

The Pantheon was commissioned at about the time of the birth of Christ and finished by the emperor Hadrian about 126 AD. It is one of the best preserved Ancient Roman Buildings.

Our full day concluded with an "Opera dinner show." In addition to hearing some famous opera pieces, the show involved some audience participation. Here is an opera piece about the "art of seduction" that involved all the men in the audience.

You can see from Greg's smile we had a great second day!
